Former FM Sanitation Works Continue Demonstrations
The Greek Finance Ministry's former sanitation staff is conducting another demonstration, outside the General Accounting Office in the nation's capital.
This marks the second month of rallies held in Athens, where axed cleaning employees are requesting a meeting with deputy Finance Minster Christos Staikouras. A couple of weeks ago, the Greek Supreme Court froze a Instance Court mandate to reemploy approximately 400 fired staff.
The Instance Court decided that public sector reforms shouldn't involve the layoffs of Finance Ministry cleaners, while the Ministry believes that the lower court system doesn't have the jurisdiction to determine the act. Sanitation employee's attorneys are arguing on their behalf, that the dismissals were illegal.
